  • Our History

Excel exploration and production Company Limited is an oil and Gas company incorporated on 18th of April 2001. It is the marginal field operator of the NNPC/SHELL EREMOR FIELD (OML 46) located in 3 meters of water in Peretorugbene community, Ekeremor Local Government Area in Bayelsa State. The field is one of the twenty-four marginal fields awarded by the Federal Government of Nigeria in 2003 after a competitive bidding process. SHELL and its joint venture partners NNPC, TOTAL and AGIP handed over the field to Excel E&P in November 2004.

Excel Exploration and Production began preparations for operations by obtaining relevant government approvals from the Department of Petroleum Resources and the Federal Ministry of Environment immediately after field hand over by Shell. Mobilization to the Eremor location started with the dredging of the location from the Brass creek. Well re-entry started on the 1st of May 2005 and full rig up on location was on the 15th of the same month.

History was made on 3rd of June 2005, six months after the field hand over as Excel E&P flowed its first oil from the Well-1 well production test conducted by Schlumberger. The D-03 reservoir that was tested flowed 2183 barrels, making Excel the first marginal field company to flow the first oil with very high Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) operational standards.

A stakeholders meeting was initiated by Excel E&P with the host community to introduce the company and its planned operations. The occasion was well attended with management staff of the company present and over a thousand people from the community represented by its Ex-Co and the populace.

Excel E&P enjoys a very cordial relationship with its host community because of its transparent community development policy that focuses on adopting strategic initiatives cutting across all sectors including health, education, social and youth development amongst others, to impact and improve the quality and standard of living of the average Peretorugbene man and neighbouring communities.
